During a press conference of the National Ballet of China (NBC) in Beijing on August 21, Director Feng Ying announced the official start of the “commemorative performance in the Great Hall of the People on September 23 for the 50th anniversary of the premiere of the Red Detachment of Women”.
Highlights of this great event
This commemorative performance is regarded as the priority of all the activities in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Red Detachment of Women.
Highlight 1: A large squad of 400 persons will attend the performance. This unprecedented line-up will include more than 100 ballet dancers, 70 players of orchestra, 50 representatives of pupils in Beijng, 150 chorus members from universities in Beijing, 60 scenic designers and guests from various circles.
Highlight 2: Five generations of “Qionghua” will gather for the performance. As the representatives of five generations of “Qionghua”, Bai Shuxiang, Xue Jinghua, Feng Ying, Li Ning and Zhang Jian will relive the classical memories with audience.
Highlight 3: Guests from various circles will enjoy the great event. The National Ballet of China will invite Pu Cunxin, Tang Guoqiang, Yu Junjian, Yan Weiwen, Yin Xiumei, Jiang Kun, Huang Hong and celebrities in literary and art circles for attending and celebrate this unforgettable art festival.
Hereditary treasure of Chinese Ballet
The Red Detachment of Women is a well-known ballet which premiered on 26 September 1964 and which has been hailed as a model of the successful combination of western ballet technique with Chinese folk dancing. During the past 50 years, the total number of shows of this piece is more than 4000. It earns also an international prestige for its shows in the United States of America, Russia, Denmark, Israel, France, Italy and many other countries.
Up to this day, the meaning of The Red Detachment of Women has far more exceeded its value as a ballet. As NBC’s Director Feng Ying said: “The Red Detachment of Women” is not only a spiritual and cultural treasure of our country and people, but also the heirloom of our company.
